For the first time in a long time we sent our Select 2-Year-Olds in training down to Calder without any skin problems whatsoever. Usually with the stresses involved with the changes in weather and training conditions, our horses develop skin problems, but by keeping them on the MedEquine® we didn't have to worry about it. Sincerely, J.S., Farm Manager Thank you for the 2,0 ounces of the MedEquine® Antimicrobial Formula that I received last week. With the advent of the recent warm, humid weather, my gelding has begun to the show signs of the rash and lesions that cause him to itch and scratch. The first location of the problem was behind his elbow. Since I had MedEquine® left over from my purchase last fall, I used your product immediately. With twice-a-day applications, there was a definite improvement within a few days but little gnats moved into the site of the irritation. I then put Gold Nugget Gnat Away lotion on in addition to the MedEquine®. Now, two weeks later, the site is completely healed. "Baron" gets an itchy tail. He does not / can not rub his tail exactly at the location of the itch making it difficult to find the problem spot. When I get my fingernails to the tail itself, I can scrape off a dry, yellow, scaly matter at the itch site. My biggest problem is getting the lotion down into the tail. It tends to run off on the top of the hair. Even your spray-on product does not penetrate the tail and mane hairs to the root and hair follicles where the problem actually occurs. The little spout on this latest bottle helps place the medicine at the location that it is needed. I have part the hair, place the bottle at the site of the irritation, squeeze out the lotion and rub in into the tail. I add a fly/gnat deterrent after treating the site with MedEquine®. I am happy to report that this combination used twice daily is very effective at this time. Unfortunately, I am convinced that the itchy problem is an on-going problem with this horse. As an equine nutritionist, Professor-In-Charge of the University of Florida's Horse Research Center and a horse owner I have a many years experience with horses. One of the major problems that we have with horses in Florida is skin problems. There are many topical treatments for these maladies, most which have little or no effect on the problem at hand. I am always open to trying new products that may be of assistance in helping horse owners deal with these conditions. Although I have not conducted any controlled experiments with MedEquine®, I have tested this product on three skin conditions in my horses and on horses owned by friends. I have used the product with considerable success on depigmentation conditions that are probably caused by a fungus. We did around the muzzle and eyes in Arabian horses. Our experience with MedEquine® demonstrated that with daily topical treatment for 5 to 7 days, the organism was apparently eliminated and the pigment returned to the skin and hair within two weeks. I have also used the product on Summer Itch. The product seemed to be effective in relieving the itch and promoting healing but to my disappointment, when I stopped the treatment the itch returned. The third place where I have used the product is for the treatment of warts on the muzzle of horses. I found MedEquine® to cause warts to disappear after only a few days of topical treatment. It is my opinion from the above tests that MedEquine® is effective in treating some types of skin conditions in horses. Sincerely, E.
